We are officially into our 3rd month of 2018! WOW WOW WOW. We’re 1/4 of the way through the year and I’ve been 100% slung the through the mud already, but #blessed. Amirite?!
A friend shared this quote on Facebook, which really knocked it out of the park for how I’ve been living my 2018 so far:
I have struggled these first few months with a lot “2 steps forward, 3 steps back”.. and all this time I’ve had a mindset of “I’ll be happy once I accomplish XYZ” or “once XYZ is finally finished, it will be ok“.
But that ain’t the truth, child. Everyday there is another XYZ lurking behind the corner. So finding ways to make myself happy-instead of waiting for happy to come to me-has become my 2018 mission.
TOOT TOOT, all aboard the self-love train!
The #1 thing for me and owning a positive attitude has been going to (duh duh duh)… the gym.
I realize this is not everyone’s #1 thing, and not even on the radar for some.. which is why I’m apprehensive to talk about it. There’s a thin, thin line of “wow, inspiring” and “OMG stop posting half-naked “progress” selfies NO ONE CARES ABOUT YOUR ABS”.
I don’t want to cross that line.
But struggling with weight and body image issues is something I think all of us battle. And there’s this “air” of wanting to make it appear effortless, when it is anything BUT effortless.
So I’ve decided to talk about it and start a series of posts to bring to you everything I do or try or buy to attempt to get in shape.
Starting with.. the gym. It’s a love-hate relationship.
Going to a gym is key for me. If I try to do a workout at home, I find every excuse to quit after about a 10 minute effort. Coffee tables are meant for coffee and putting your feet up- NOT tricep dips. So I go to the gym.
Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t have a fancy gym membership. I have the basic $10/month Planet Fitness membership.
Planet Fitness is similar to the Land of Misfit Toys. There are all kinds of kinds at Planet Fitness. That is why they have this phrase posted everywhere:
THATS NOT A THING, planet fitness. I get what they’re aiming for, and I don’t mean to come off “better than” or anything of a high-horse.. I can assure you I’m not pointing and laughing at overweight people. In fact, that’s not where I judge. Those are the people I want to high five and cheer on.
It’s the fit and toned people that I give ALL my side-eye to. The blonde who has CURLED HER HAIR to come to the gym in her all-matching outfit. Or Mr. Muscles that likes to hog the cable machine and flex his biceps in the mirror.
I digress.. the point is, making an effort. Whatever that means for you. Putting in a DVD you bought on late-night QVC, walking down the driveway, or curling your hair to sweat it into a stringy mess. I know my effort is better followed-thru at the gym, so that’s where I go!
